About me...
I called myself Queen Mallory after one of my favorite characters Quinn Mallory of TV show Sliders. I do not want to type my name in this blog due to one person actually stalking me! Yep, by using search engine!
I made my digital papers with:
-Photoshop 4.0... However, I can not make any transparent png's or any present/currently format. I can make transparent gif's.
-My computer is old too. It's EMachine 600is from year 2000 (Orignal Window ME). 600is only have least 9 GB (tends to be full many times), you can find an information about it online. I doubt I would get new one for other 5 to 10 years. I doubt I would get new program either.
I created my digital scrapbook pages with:
-Photoshop 4.0
-Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Designer
UPDATE:
I now have new program that allow me to create PNG files! Yay!

I have read in your introduction about having an old version of Photoshop and a computer with very little memory. I'm no sure whether this might help you but there are a couple of Open Source Programs, dedicated to image editing, and they will help you creating scrapbooking stuff. They both handle the new image formats as png and other and layers. One Paint.net, is very similar to Photoshop Elements. It has a very active and helpful Forum where you can find lots of help, tutorials and plug-ins.

You will find information about the kind of memory you need in the computer in that Forum as well as places to download free the program. It's easier to learn than the following program, GIMP. This program is closer to the last version of Photoshop. Accepts layers, masking, filters, plugins. You can even find a plugin to load in the program Photoshop compatible plugins. Unfortunately I haven't found yet anything that will make actions work, but there are plenty of scripts for this program too. It's more complex and difficult to learn than the previous one. Free as well, to download as the previous one. There are lots of places to look for help to learn the program and you can adapt Photoshop and Photoshop Elements tutorials to learn how to use it. It works both in Windows and Linux. It was originally created for Linux systems. If the latest version of the program has too many memory requirements you might be able to download a previous version of it.You can also download a portable version of this program that can fit a USB drive.

I hope this is of help and will allow you to work with more actual stuff and png. Just one thing, GIMP might be as difficult to learn as CS2 but it's the closest thing to it.
